I also had purchased and had professionally installed Exterior French Patio Doors by Jeld wen 4 years ago. The first year I noticed that there was some damage to the corner bottom of the jam. I cleaned, caulked and repainted in attempts to correct the problem. By...

We bought an exterior steel door in which we paid an extra $100 to have it cut to fit our back entrance. The door held up for almost 5 years except for the bottom and sides from the lower hinge down. Its starts at the hinge, goes underneath the guard on the bottom to...

Ditto from me. Same experience.

Poor design to me. Can now get no rot jam or ones with composite foot.

I guess they have learned something in the last ten years due to complaints. Will not purchase another one ever.

The door was cheaper than Anderson, but not the same Quality. The door handle is poorly manufactured and creates a pinch point between the handle and the jam. The door does not overlap the outside rail (Anderson Doors do provide an overlap). When looking at the outside...

Poor Customer Service

Had scheduled warranty service work over a month ago. The night before the scheduled service called to confirm everything. The morning of I was given a time window of 10:15am to 12:15pm. After several calls and assurance that the tech was on his way at 2:45pm they informed me that the tech went to a different unit and completed repairs there and that there was nothing they could do about it. We would have to start the request for service process over from the beginning. Which is ridiculous. As would have that it the person to talk to is unavailable and surprise there are no managers or supervisor available either.

Same here. Just told me it was my fault.

Lowes won't do anything, Reliabilt by Jeld Wen won't do anything and UTS Warranty won't do anything.

Waste of money. They should be ashamed of themselves!

Jeld Wen - Slider door with pet door
I recently purchased and installed a slider door that has a pet door in it, and I am very displeased with the pet door. The pet door flap does not withstand wind, rain, or snow. The slightest breeze pushes the flap open and lets in all the air. I have a brand new...

Jeldwen windows are inadequate for Northern Illinois

Our builder used jeld wen windows in our house built 2007. In warmer climates they would be just fine. In northern Illinois they are horribly inadequate in the winter. They are very poorly designed with air infiltration issues. They came several times and tried some band aid fixes for their design flaws. One obvious problem is that with our single hung windows is that the frame doesn't overlap enough to provide a seal with the sash. They have some tiny insulation between them that is supposed to be air tight. What a joke. I would never recommend them to an enemy.

Good news. I believe your story is more indicative of how dealings with JELD-WEN are then most of these rants posted here

Sounds like to me you got tilt single hung windows they were probably bowed out during installation. That was probably mentioned but no one wanted to reinstall them correctly.

I bought 3 of the Wendco premium windows back in about 1992 or so. Don't remember the exact date.

I loved them. They were very warm and no air infiltration even when 20 below and wind howling at 30 or 40 miles an hour. I had one on the north side and 2 on the west side. They had a vinyl covered foam weather strip which after twenty some years of use has become damaged in areas.

They are still in use and show no sign of deterioration. Wendco is no longer in business and was bought by Jeldwen. When looking at them at Home Depot they looked like the same window. I bought 24 of them, thinking they were the same window.

After installing them I can see they have made a few changes that appear to be mainly cost saving changes. They now use a felt plastic strip for weather stripping. The Jeldwen windows do not have as good fit and finish as the old Wendco windows. The mold seams are not smoothed down which causes the weather stripping to not be as effective in the corners.

It also makes some of the windows very hard to open. One thing to remember is that these are not high end windows. A high end window will usually have two or three layers of weather stripping to make them weather tight. I have only had mine for a year and so far, for what they are I am happy with them.

So far the Jeldwen customer service experience has been very good with me. They found some weather stripping to replace the old weather stripping on my Wendco windows free of charge.

Regarding a replcement window lock

Worst customer service ever, rude, pushy, shoving me back to the seller, not answering questions, on and on and on. All I wanted to do is buy a replacement window lock that was broken. Home Depot sent me to this number, Jeld-Wen sent me back to home depot for resolution. In the meantime I have a window that won't lock because of a broken $3 part. Due to this unpleasant encounter all of my future vinyl window business will be through Milgard. I've never had a problem with Milgard. Jeld-Wen should fire their customer service reps and replace them with someone trained in customer service.

Hi,

I am currently dealing with Jeld-Wen for a broken lock on a vinyl window purchased in 2004. They say the lock is not covered because their warranty does not cover "Normal wear and tear; and natural weathering of surfaces and/or hardware finishes (e.g.

corrosion)." Got this straight out of their warranty. I read this as it does not cover finishes, not the mechanics of the lock. I'm curious if you were ever able to get this resolved. I have a feeling I'm going to have to replace the window and repair stucco work, etc.

because of this BS.

Lack of customer service

I ordered a patio door from Jeld- Wen. It arrived without the screen. It had to be reordered. It arrived three weeks later. It was the wrong color and size. It was reordered again with a rush on it. Here it is three weeks later and I'm still waiting. I contacted the company and was told it will ship in another week. No offer to expedite or even an apology. I sent another email expressing my dissatisfaction and still did not receive a proper response. This company fails to realize how important customer satisfaction is to staying in business. Don't waste your time with this company.

Jeld-Wen purchased at Menards

Very similar to the people from Michigan who left the complaint at Menards. I bought the higher end Auralast casement windows for a 6,000 square foot duplex in Deerfield, WI. As the general contractor I paid to have an independent rep come to witness all the molded windows and he said it was humidity issue when you could clearly tell that the gasket that the window sash closes against allows leakage. That was one place. The other is at the 45 degree angle that are in the corners of the window acutually let air through and causes mold in the crevice. What can I say but to try someone else or stick with vinyl or fiberglass. Forget about their 20 year warranty. CAVEAT EMPTOR!
